About the Programme

General Nursing & Midwifery (GNM) is a 3½-year diploma — three years of academic learning followed by a six-month internship. It is one of the most accessible and quickly-employable healthcare qualifications in India, approved by the Indian Nursing Council and the Odisha Nursing Council.

At FIMS, GNM is taught with the same seriousness as a degree programme. You study anatomy, physiology and pharmacology in the classroom; practise injections, dressings and patient handling in our Nursing Foundation lab; and rotate through medicine, surgery, paediatric, OBG and community-health wards in our partner hospitals. By the time you reach your internship year, you're already handling routine ward responsibilities under supervision.

FIMS also makes sure GNM students don't get left behind socially or academically — separate ladies hostel, dedicated wardens, soft-skills training and exam coaching ensure that you leave with confidence, not just a diploma.

✓Pass in 10+2 (CHSE / CBSE / ICSE or equivalent) — Science (Biology) preferred but Arts / Commerce streams also eligible.
✓Minimum 40% aggregate marks (relaxation for SC / ST as per State norms).
✓Minimum 17 years and a maximum of 35 years on or before 31st December of the year of admission.
✓Medically fit as per Indian Nursing Council norms.
